姫島村にある「比売語曽社(ひめこそしゃ) 」は、島最古の社として知られています。
日本書紀によると、垂仁（すいにん）天皇の御代、意富加羅国（おほからのくに・今の韓国南部）の王子が、白い石から生まれた姫と結婚しようとしたが、それを逃れ、姫島に辿り着いて比売語曽の神になったと記されています。
同建物は比売語曽神を祀る神社でもあり、別名“比売語曽神社”とも呼ばれ、毎年4月3日には春の大祭が開かれています。
