代々製塩業・庄屋を営んできた旧家です。古庄家の屋敷は、第１１代小右衛門が天保１３年より３年の歳月をかけて完成しました。伊藤博文や勝海舟が訪れたともいわれています。敷地は約５５０坪一部二階建ての寄棟造りで延建坪は１２９坪です。庭園、お成りの間等、旧庄屋の格式を伝える貴重な建物です。 この古庄家は姫島に居を移したのち、塩田の設置、防波堤の築造をおこない、功績を残したと記されています。当時使用されていた日用品も数多く展示されています。
