旧藩校時代の藩校「学習館」の門で、天明5年（1785）七代藩主松平親賢（ちかかた）公により設立され、現在市内に残る門の中で最も規模が大きく格調高い門です。約２００年の風雪に耐えて立つ姿は、北台武家屋敷の中心であり、城下町杵築のシンボルでもあります。江戸時代に残照をとどめる旧藩校の正門が、現在に至るまで小学校の門として使用されているのは全国的にみても珍しいです。
