遊歩公園は、戦後、市の復興計画の一環として、昭和２６年に整備された都市公園です。府内城跡の南側にあり、細長く南北に延びる公園には、朝倉文夫作の彫刻「みどりのかげ」、「滝廉太郎君像」、「姉妹」の３作品があり、ほかにも「フランシスコ・ザビエル」、天正遣欧使節の首席正使であった「伊東ドン・マンショ」の像など、たくさんの作品が約３５０ｍにわたって並んでいます。
遊歩公園は、市民の憩いの場として広く親しまれ、散歩などで訪れる人も多くいます。
