内山観音の愛称で親しまれる蓮城寺は桜の名所としても有名で、観音様に合格祈願をしていた人が、桜の季節になるとお礼参りに来る姿も見られます。
国宝・臼杵石仏との縁も深い真名野長者が、中国からきた蓮城法師のために建設したと言われるこの寺には、長者夫婦の墓や金亀ヶ渕など長者伝説ゆかりの史跡が残されています。
また、観音堂には本尊の千手観音、薬師堂には京都三十三間堂と並ぶ九百九十八体の薬師像や一寸八分観音など、貴重な文化財を多数見る事もできます。
