｢宇佐三瀑｣と呼ばれる大滝の一つで、東椎屋の滝が「雄滝」、西椎屋の滝が「雌滝」ならば、福貴野の滝は「子滝」。
落差６５ｍと他の２つに比べれば低いものの、男滝と女滝からなる滝の水量は豊富で、見応えの点では少しも引けを取りません。
かつては滝を見下ろす位置に龍泉寺と言う寺院があり、その展望台からの景色が多くの文人墨客に愛されたことから、「龍泉の滝」とも呼ばれています。
また、早朝、滝つぼで跳ねる水飛沫に陽の光が反射して、小さな虹がいくつも生まれる光景は、雄大な自然だけが為せる芸術品です。
