稲葉家下屋敷は、藩置県後に東京へ居を移した旧臼杵藩主稲葉家の、里帰りのための邸宅として明治35(1902)年に建てられました。
杉や檜などの上質の素材を使用し、式台のある玄関や、書院作り奥座敷など格式の高い造りから、国登録有形文化財となっております。
また、隣接する旧平井家住宅は、江戸時代後期の建築様式を今に残す上級武家住宅です。その特徴的かつ情緒ある佇まいは、県指定有形文化財となっています。
