競秀峰（きょうしゅうほう）は、耶馬溪でも屈指の名勝です。この奇景に魅せられて、この里に骨を埋めた小野桜山のような人物もいます。その景観は、樋田側から一・二・三の峰、恵比須岩・鬼面岩・大黒岩・妙見岩・殿岩・釣鐘岩・陣の岩・八王子岩など集塊岩の巨峰、奇岩群が約1キロにわた って連なっています。
競秀峰を観るには、青の洞門をくぐり抜けて、岩肌にふれながら直下から振り仰ぐ方法や山国川のほとりから見学するほか、山腹を巡る競秀峰探勝道からもその美しさを満喫できます。
