三浦梅園は、帆足万里、広瀬淡窓と並んで「豊後の三賢人」と称される江戸時代の哲学者です。
資料館には国指定の三浦梅園遺稿や天球儀、肖像画などを常設展示しており、年に一度特別展を開催しています。また、隣接する国指定史跡内の茅葺き屋根の三浦梅園旧宅は無料で見学できます。
資料館内では研究員が説明等を行っており（要電話予約）、医学、哲学、天文学、経済学等ありとあらゆる学問を勉強した三浦梅園先生の功績をみることができます。
