六郷満山の中で最古のお寺で、六郷満山霊場14番札所です。本尊の薬師如来、両脇の阿弥陀如来、釈迦如来はいづれも平安中～後期の作と伝えらています。中でも阿弥陀如来は重要文化財に指定されています。他に地獄極楽の曼荼羅など多くの文化財があります。住職の楽しい講話を聞きにツアー客が訪れるお寺です。境内にあるサルスベリは樹齢600年と言われています。赤やピンク、白い花が夏の間中、鮮やかな色で咲き続けます。
