府内には顕徳町と上野に二つの大友館があります。史料に「上原館(うえのはるやかた)」という名で登場する大友館は、多くの緑樹を擁する上野台地の北側にあり、中世府内町を眺望できる位置に造られていました。
顕徳町にある大友館とは異なり、現在も一部に大規模な堀跡、土塁が残り、防御性の高い戦国館の姿を今に伝えています。
現存する土塁の上に「西山城大友館跡」の碑が建てられています。
