中根邸は三河国（現愛知県)出身の中根長兵衛末治が杵築藩主能見松平四代重勝に仕え、500石をもらい受け、南台入り口に屋敷をいただきました。現存のものは文久2年（1862年）に中根家九代家老中根源右衛門が建築した隠居宅といわれています。この屋敷は、「家老丁」に残る唯一の家老屋敷です。庭園、裏庭まで手入れされており、当時の暮らしぶりを風情たっぷりと感じさせてくれます。きつき城下町資料館が隣接されています。
