この九重石塔は南北朝期に活躍した、飯塚城主、第二代田原氏能（うじよし）が、父・貞広の供養をするために建立したものと伝えられています。基礎は四重。第四重の各面は二区に別れ、それぞれに格狭間（こうざま）が刻まれています。第一層の軸部の四面には、金剛界四方仏の種子が力強く薬研彫りされています。最上層の笠から上を欠いていますが、鎌倉時代の様式を遺憾なく表現した力量感のあふれる豪壮な秀作です。
