遠見稲荷神社は、日出町真那井の遠見山（115メートル）に鎮座し、暘谷城鬼門にあった青柳稲荷を遷座したのが始まりです。参勤交代出発する日出藩木下公の船旅の安全を祈っていました。別府湾から周防灘まで見渡せたことから藩の見張り所でした。明治10年には京都伏見稲荷の分身も祭る拝殿を建立しました。拝殿の裏手に回る参道を行くと、白キツネが住んでいたとされる穴や、白キツネを祭った社などを見ることができます。
