標高223.6ｍで、中世戦国山城である栂牟礼城跡があります。築城の時期は不明ですが「栂牟礼実録」や「大友興廃記」などの江戸時代に書かれた戦記物によれば、初めて登場するのは、大永年間（1521～27）佐伯氏十代惟治の時です。なお、栂牟礼城とは峯続きで、一山越えた所に多数の堅堀のある砦址が確認されていますが、これは臼杵長景が栂牟礼城攻めに築いた臨時の城、つまり付城ではなかったかと考えられています。
山頂にはヒオウギ・トウササクサ・ヒキオコシ・ヤマハッカがあります。谷には珍しいタニジャコウソウがあり、スズムシバナが多くエゴマなどがでます。
