上直見祭典は、2年に1度、隔年の9月に開催されています。 この歴史は、遠く江戸時代の享保2年（1717）まで遡り、直川に隣接の弥生大坂本から伝授されたという、荒川流杖踊りに端を発しており、佐伯市の民俗無形文化財に指定されています。この伝統芸能を守り伝えるために、昭和49年に上直見芸能保存会が組織され、肘切神社・富尾神社で交互に踊りを奉納しています。
