岡城二の丸月見櫓跡の北側、稲葉川沿いの絶壁に大きな三日月が彫られています。岡藩主中川久通が彫り込んだと伝えられる岩に彫られた三日月の大きさは、弦長3m21cm、最大幅45cm、奥行35cmもあり、月の中には「元禄十五年八月彫之」の文字と灯明台を置くための4つの台も彫り込んであります。毎年、三日月岩前に水上特設舞台が設置され「竹田薪能（喜多流）」が開催されます。三日月岩の灯火と水面に映し出される古典芸能の舞に、幽玄の世界が広がります。
