平面復元された中川覚左衛門屋敷は、約200坪の広さがあり、復元には日田杉が使用されています。
石垣を二段に積み上げた部分は「隅櫓（すみやぐら）」と呼ばれ、かつては藩主が訪ねて来た際に城内を展望したようです。屋敷内には付近には季節折々の植物が植えられています。付近には、普請方（ふしんかた）や来客の待機所であった賄方（まかない）跡、もう一人の家老中川民部の屋敷跡もあり当時の様子を知ることができます。
