岡藩7万石の城下町として栄えた竹田市は、山林が総面積の65%を占め、その多くが竹林です。2000年から、竹の需要減少と竹林廃墟改善のために始まった竹灯籠による町並みライトアップは、今では竹田市最大のイベントになりました。2020年、2021年は中止となりましたが、今年は開催予定。約2万本の灯籠が灯る、幻想的な風景が3年ぶりに楽しめそうです。なかでもおすすめポイントは十六羅漢や広瀬神社。階段いっぱいに竹灯籠が並べられ、光の道と化します。
